Mike, a newly-hired intelligence analyst, participates in his first 'debriefing' (voluntary interview) of Junghee, a North Korean defector now living in New York. Sara, the supervising officer, has Mike lead the questioning while Junghee cooperates under the watchful eye of Anthony, his 'handler'. As Mike proceeds, he unearths the details of Junghee's painful journey from loyal soldier and loving family man to a conflicted soul who feels that he might have betrayed what he loved and honored most, despite his former government's severe abuses. Junghee refuses to be easily categorized by the intelligence officers, forcing Mike to deepen his understanding of what Junghee has suffered through in an increasingly heated exchange.
