Gene Retare seems to be the last person on the planet after the nuclear holocaust. He has miraculously survived that deadly event and has no idea how. During his earlier times, he has experienced periods of grandeur, but none of this has manifested in reality. After all of his years alone, he seems to be resigning himself to his apparent fate. It now appears that he will die all alone after living a life where every day is the same as the previous day.
